Spurs Re-Sign Six-Year NBA Veteran Guard

The San Antonio Spurs have reportedly secured a one-year deal with veteran point guard Jordan McLaughlin. In their efforts to build a competitive team around superstar center Victor Wembanyama, the Spurs made moves last offseason, including signing future Hall of Famer Chris Paul to a one-year contract.

However, with Chris Paul expected to leave in unrestricted free agency, the Spurs are still looking for experienced point guard support for Wembanyama. Although they pursued star guard De’Aaron Fox at the trade deadline, they also acquired another seasoned guard in the process.

As part of the De’Aaron Fox trade, the Spurs brought in six-year NBA veteran McLaughlin from the Sacramento Kings. Now, despite McLaughlin hitting free agency this summer, the Spurs have re-signed him to a one-year, $3 million deal to stay in San Antonio.

Shams Charania of ESPN reported, “Free agent guard Jordan McLaughlin has agreed to a one-year, $3 million deal to return to the San Antonio Spurs, according to his agent Greg Lawrence of Wasserman.” McLaughlin split last season between the Spurs and Kings and enters his seventh NBA season as a reserve guard.

In 18 appearances with San Antonio last season, McLaughlin averaged 2.5 points and 1.5 assists in just 6.9 minutes per game, shooting an efficient 53.6% from the field, 45.0% from three, and 100% from the free-throw line. While McLaughlin may not have a prominent role with the Spurs, his presence will be valuable in easing the load on their young core, especially with Paul departing.
