Colts’ Rising Star Falls Just Short of Top-10 Tackle Ranking
Indianapolis Colts left tackle Bernhard Raimann came close to being named one of the NFL’s top-10 offensive tackles, but narrowly missed the cut.
Despite the Colts being seen as a team with limited elite young talent, Raimann stands out as one of the bright building blocks for the future. Now entering his fourth NFL season, he’s quickly become one of the most indispensable players on the roster. As he approaches the final year of his contract, it’s expected that he’ll be among the league’s highest-paid tackles soon, joining the 15 tackles making at least $20 million annually.
Raimann plays a crucial role in protecting the quarterback at the highly important left tackle position. A group of NFL executives, coaches, and scouts recognize his potential and believe he’s on the brink of stardom.
In ESPN’s annual survey of NFL personnel, Raimann earned an honorable mention just outside the top 10 offensive tackles. A veteran NFL scout remarked, “He is a good example of sticking with a player. He started slowly but has continued to improve and was really good last year.”
Raimann’s journey with the Colts is a true success story of draft-and-develop. The team selected him in the third round of the 2022 draft despite his limited experience. After a rough start to his rookie year, he finished as the No. 25 offensive tackle in the NFL (73.3 rating) according to Pro Football Focus. Since then, his performance has consistently improved.
In 2023, Raimann ranked fifth among NFL tackles (82.7 rating), and in 2024 he moved up to eighth (85.1). This means that, despite a shaky start, he has been a top-25 tackle as a rookie and a top-10 player in each of his first two full seasons as a starter. Despite missing three starts in 2024, Raimann was the Colts’ highest-ranked full-time offensive player. However, there’s still room for growth, as he allowed a team-high four sacks and was third in penalties with six.
