Daylan Carnell Shares Thoughts at SEC Media Days
Missouri defensive back Daylan Carnell had the opportunity to speak with the media during SEC Media Days in Atlanta, where he reflected on his time with the Tigers and his excitement for the 2025 season.
On the 2025 season and Missouri’s potential:
“I’m really thankful and excited to be here. I’m looking forward to the upcoming season, and I think you can expect big things from the Missouri Tigers.”
On being overlooked by the SEC media:
“We might not get as much attention as some other teams, but honestly, we’re not too worried about it. We’ll let our play do the talking when the season starts.”
On the benefits of being underestimated:
“Yeah, they might be sleeping on us. But we’ll wake them up.”
On representing Missouri in his fifth year at SEC Media Days:
“It means a lot. Coach Drink selects three players every year, and I’ve always hoped to be here. It feels great to represent Missouri and show what Coach Drink has built over the years. I’m proud to be part of it.”
On Zion Young’s excitement for Media Days:
“Zion’s been telling us to cherish the moment since we got here. He’s been taking pictures and videos every step of the way. He’s really making sure we enjoy it, and I know he’s definitely having a blast.”
On playing for Coach Drinkwitz:
“Coach Drink is a real player’s coach. He’s always building strong relationships with us, and you can talk to him about anything, not just football. He’s a great guy, and I’ve enjoyed playing for him over the last five years.”
On the 2024 A&M game and their offense:
“Last year, that game wasn’t great for us. It was probably one of the loudest environments I’ve played in, and their run game was strong. We gave them some unnecessary pregame motivation, and they capitalized on it.”
On playing six straight home games to start the season:
“I love playing at home. The six straight games will help us build confidence. It’s a bit of a challenge with the first away game being so late, but I think we’ll be ready. If we handle business at home, we’ll be ready for that first road game.”
On the team’s goals and his personal aspirations:
“Our goal as a team is to make the College Football Playoff and compete for the SEC Championship. Personally, I just want to give it my all this season and have my best year yet. I want to lead the team and win games. If we do that, everything else will follow.”
On the new North End Zone construction:
“The North End Zone project is coming along fast. I’m not sure what to expect, but I know the crowd will still be amazing. The guys next year will be lucky to have it finished.”
On the quarterbacks and Sam Horn’s potential decision:
“Both quarterbacks are working hard and putting in extra time with the receivers. We expect Sam to be with us this season, even though he’s a phenomenal pitcher. He’s focused on football right now, and we’re excited to have him competing for the starting spot.”
On the pregame motivation against A&M:
“We didn’t really know where the blanket came from, but looking back, we didn’t need to give them that extra motivation. It was a funny moment, but after a tough loss, it wasn’t so funny anymore. If we’d won, maybe it would’ve felt different.”
On leadership on the defense in 2025:
“Zion Young is a huge vocal leader, probably the most vocal on the whole team. We also have guys like Catalon, McClellan, Trotter, and Jacobs stepping up. It’s a committee, but those are the guys leading the charge.”
On Coach Corey Batoon’s impact:
“Coach Batoon’s been great for my development. He’s very technique-focused, and I feel like my game has improved under him, from alignment to assignment. I’m looking forward to building on that this season.”
On Missouri’s sustained success and the potential for a third straight 10-win season:
“It all starts with leadership. Coach Drink always says that bad teams have bad leaders, and good teams have strong leadership. Over the last couple of years, leadership has been much better, and it’s reflected in our record. We’re aiming for a 10-win season, and with the leadership we have, we’re confident we can get there.”
On the new receivers and facing off with Kevin Coleman:
“We’ve got some talented new receivers, especially Kevin Coleman. He’s going to have a huge role this season. He’s tough to cover, and I see him a lot in practice. I’m looking forward to seeing him shine this year.”
On the memorable Auburn game last season:
“I’ll never forget Brady Cook’s comeback after he got hurt. We all assumed he was done, but he came back to lead the comeback. He’s a warrior and a Mizzou legend. I have so much respect for him.”
