Georgia Secures Commitment from Swedish 4-Star DL Valdin Sone: “I’m Going to Play on the Biggest Stage”
Georgia maintained a steady presence throughout the recruitment of Swedish 4-star defensive lineman Valdin Sone, but it was their strong push in the summer that ultimately sealed the deal. After an official visit to Auburn, Sone traveled to Athens for an unofficial visit in early June. During that trip, he connected with the coaches and began moving up Kirby Smart’s recruiting board.
Following official visits to Nebraska and Florida, the 6-foot-3.5, 320-pound prospect made his final official visit to Georgia on June 20. After a fierce battle with Auburn, Florida, and Nebraska, Sone committed to the Bulldogs, becoming the No. 130-ranked player in the Rivals Industry Ranking.
“I chose Georgia because of their focus on development, coaching, relationships, and the hard work they put in,” Sone told Rivals.
While Sone had an idea of his decision before the visit, it was during his official visit that he knew Georgia was the right fit.
“I kind of knew before the visit, but I wanted to experience the official visit first. By the second day, I was sure. I’d visited five or six times before, and I felt comfortable around the people and the program. The vibe was right, and I knew Georgia was home.”
Sone’s decision was heavily influenced by defensive line coach Tray Scott, whose reputation for developing top-tier players played a key role.
“Coach Scott is an incredible coach. He’s all about development and getting players to the league. His coaching style was a big factor in my decision. When you talk about Coach Scott and Georgia, you talk about development, so I’m excited to go to work with them.”
Sone also praised Coach Smart for his defensive mindset and genuine care for his players.
“Coach Smart is a lot like Coach Scott—he’s an incredible coach. He’s defensive-minded, very genuine, and wants the best for his players. I love how he trusts Coach Scott and the rest of his staff.”
Georgia had everything Sone was looking for in a program, but the decision wasn’t made lightly. He took his time and made sure not to rush his choice.
“Georgia isn’t for everyone because of the competition and the work ethic required, but that’s exactly what I want to be a part of. Georgia is almost perfect for me. Iron sharpens iron, and you have to work hard to play at Georgia.”
Sone is excited for the challenge ahead, knowing that he’ll be playing in the SEC for a championship-contending defense and under one of the top coaches in college football.
“I’m going to play on the biggest stage, in the SEC, for Coach Smart—the best coach in college football. I’ll be playing in a defense that always dominates, and going to Georgia gives me the best chance to make it to the NFL.”
Sone spent his junior year of high school playing football at Blue Ridge School in Dyke, Virginia, after playing football in Sweden since he was 11. He plans to enroll at Georgia in January.
