Texas A&M Player Unfazed by Texas Longhorns’ Stars
Texas A&M offensive lineman Ar’maj Reed-Adams isn’t feeling the pressure when it comes to facing the Texas Longhorns or their standout players. As the rivalry between the two teams is back in full swing, with the next game still over four months away, the anticipation is already building.
Last season, Texas visited College Station and left with a 17-7 victory, and the Aggies may feel some pressure to get revenge this year. The Longhorns’ first year in the SEC saw them achieve something Texas A&M is still striving for: an appearance in the SEC Championship game. Both teams are aiming for national titles, and for many fans, the November 28th matchup already feels like a championship in itself.
Focused on the Team, Not Individuals
Texas coach Steve Sarkisian is leading a talented team, especially on defense with stars like Anthony Hill and Colin Simmons, who have earned a reputation for disrupting opposing offenses. When asked at SEC Media Days about preparing for this formidable duo, Reed-Adams was unshaken:
“We’re just going to do what we’re supposed to do. It’s going to come. We’re not really worried about a single player at all. We’re just worried about winning the game.”
Reed-Adams, ranked as the 13th-best offensive guard in the country last season by PFF, is a key part of the Aggies’ offensive line and is looking to step up even further in 2025.
Anticipation from Texas Longhorns
Hill, who had a standout year in 2024, expressed excitement about facing Texas A&M, saying, “I’m looking forward to seeing them. Rueben Owens is out there. I can’t wait to compete against him this year. It’s going to be a fun game.”
Entering his junior season, Hill is expected to have a breakout year after leading the Longhorns’ defense with over 100 tackles in 2024.
Simmons, who burst onto the scene last year as a freshman, was named to the SEC All-Freshman team and earned Freshman All-American honors from ESPN. Although he wasn’t at Media Days, his teammate Michael Taaffe echoed Simmons’ competitive spirit:
“In Austin, there’s no pro team. We are the pro team. And in College Station, obviously, the same. It’s a rich tradition of just Texas fans going back and forth, and it’s so fun for us as competitors.”
A Big Game, But Just Another Challenge for Reed-Adams
The rivalry is undeniably a highlight of the season for both teams and their fans, with the all-time series standing at 77-37-5 in Texas’ favor. The game is always a major event, drawing passionate crowds and creating one of the best atmospheres in college football.
However, for Ar’maj Reed-Adams, it’s simply another game on the schedule. “We’re just focused on doing our job and winning,” he said, making it clear that the hype surrounding the rivalry won’t change his approach to the game.
