The veteran is enjoying one of the best seasons of his career, leading the National League in RBIs and hitting 31 home runs by the All-Star break. According to a recent MLB Network report, the Cubs are among the top teams in line for Suárez, who is reportedly available for trade. There’s also the possibility of Arizona bundling Suárez with one of their available pitchers, such as Zac Gallen or Merrill Kelly. However, acquiring both would come at a steep price, and both would be rentals for the remainder of the season. If the Cubs can only land one player, Suárez could be the more valuable option.
At 34 years old and set to hit free agency after the season, Suárez may still come with a hefty price tag, likely requiring Chicago to part with a premium prospect. But for the Cubs, a chance to add a bat like Suárez could be worth the investment—after all, this is what a strong farm system is built for.
