Portland Trail Blazers Make Big Addition, Land Exciting Center
Portland Trail Blazers Reportedly Sign Former NBA First-Round Pick Blake Wesley
Blake Wesley is set to join the Portland Trail Blazers, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Wesley, who spent his first three seasons in the NBA with the San Antonio Spurs, had a modest 2024 campaign, averaging 3.7 points, 1.1 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game. He shot 43.5% from the field and 29.3% from beyond the arc in 58 appearances.
Charania confirmed that the guard has agreed to a one-year deal with the Blazers. Notably, Wesley improved his three-point shooting in the second half of last season, posting a 37% shooting rate from deep, which could bolster Portland’s roster.
Wesley was selected by the Spurs with the 25th overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft out of Notre Dame. Over the offseason, he was traded to the Washington Wizards but later had his contract bought out.
The Blazers, a team focused on rebuilding with a young roster, offer Wesley an opportunity to earn meaningful minutes next season. Last season, Portland finished 12th in the Western Conference with a 36-46 record.
After his buyout from the Wizards, Wesley wasted little time finding a new home in Portland. He will occupy the Blazers’ final roster spot as they continue their efforts to develop their young core.
