Seattle Seahawks Sign Former Oregon Cornerback Kam Alexander

As training camp approaches for the 2025 NFL season, the Seattle Seahawks are adding some depth to their roster by signing undrafted rookie cornerback Kam Alexander, a former Oregon Duck. Alexander, who played just one season at Oregon, went undrafted in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Seattle made the announcement on Monday, confirming the signing just before training camp starts on Tuesday. Alexander had previously participated in rookie minicamps with both the Seahawks and the Atlanta Falcons.

Additionally, the Seahawks signed former Dallas Cowboys seventh-round defensive lineman Justin Rogers and waived rookie cornerback Zy Alexander, who played for LSU last season.

Kam Alexander’s College Career

Hailing from Manvel, Texas, Alexander played in 12 games for Oregon in his lone season with the Ducks. He recorded four tackles (three solo) and one interception, which came in Oregon’s 35-0 victory over Purdue in October.

Alexander transferred to Oregon last offseason after beginning his college career at Sam Houston State in 2019. He spent four years with the Bearkats before transferring to UTSA for the 2023 season.

At UTSA, Alexander had a standout season, recording 34 tackles (32 solo), one sack, 15 pass breakups, and two interceptions. His performance earned him All-AAC First-Team honors and a Frisco Bowl Defensive MVP award after he had a sack and returned an interception 57 yards in a win over Marshall.

Mental Growth at Oregon

Ahead of the 2024 season, Alexander spoke about his personal development and focus on strengthening the mental aspect of his game. He noted that competition for a starting job would be key, and with the Seahawks, he’ll need to prove himself quickly to avoid being cut before the regular season begins.

“I came here to strengthen my mental game, and that’s exactly what’s been happening,” Alexander shared. “Competing for that starting spot is what it’s all about right now.”

Dan Lanning’s Praise

Oregon head coach Dan Lanning praised Alexander for his speed and athleticism, emphasizing his ability to match up well with opposing routes. “Kam has great speed and athleticism. He’s a guy who can run with anybody, and that’s a great trait to have at corner,” Lanning said. “We’ll keep challenging him to be more physical, especially with tackling, but he’s shown he can handle it.”

Upcoming Preseason and Regular Seasons

The Seahawks’ preseason kicks off on August 7 with a home game against the Las Vegas Raiders, followed by games against the Kansas City Chiefs (Aug. 15) and the Green Bay Packers (Aug. 23).

Oregon, on the other hand, will begin their regular season at home on August 30 against Montana State, with another home game against Oklahoma State on September 7 at Autzen Stadium.
