Orioles’ Ryan O’Hearn Expected to Be Traded Before Deadline
The Baltimore Orioles are on the brink of a major roster shakeup, with one of their top performers likely to be dealt ahead of the trade deadline.
The 2025 season has not gone as expected for the Orioles, and with the deadline just a week away, the team seems poised to enter a full-on sell mode. As a result, significant changes are coming to the roster after July 31.
Among the players expected to be moved, first baseman Ryan O’Hearn stands out as one of the most likely to be traded. MLB insider Mark Feinsand recently highlighted O’Hearn in a piece about the most tradeable players at each position. Feinsand pointed to O’Hearn, noting the high buzz surrounding his name in trade rumors.
“The Orioles are going to sell, and as their lone All-Star with an expiring contract, O’Hearn feels like one of the most likely players in MLB to be dealt by July 31,” Feinsand wrote.
O’Hearn is having a career-best season, posting a .280/.375/.453 slash line with 12 home runs, 36 RBIs, and a bWAR of 1.9 through 87 games. The 31-year-old earned his first All-Star selection in recognition of his stellar play. Playing on an $8 million club option this season, he’s far exceeded the value of his contract, making him a prime trade asset.
With O’Hearn set to become a free agent at the end of the season, the Orioles have little reason to keep him on the roster, especially as they prepare for a rebuild. The team is likely to deal him in order to get something in return, knowing that he is likely to move on in the offseason.
O’Hearn’s strong performance this year should make him an attractive trade target for several contenders, and Baltimore should expect a solid return in a deal. While it might be difficult for fans to part with a player who’s become a fan favorite, trading O’Hearn makes the most sense as the Orioles look to maximize value before the deadline.
