Ohio State and Ryan Day Receive Exciting Update on Major 2026 Prospect
Ohio State’s football program, under head coach Ryan Day, has received significant news regarding a top target for the 2026 recruiting class. As the Buckeyes gear up for the 2025 season, they’ve learned that five-star offensive lineman Darius Gray will announce his commitment on August 22, with Ohio State among five potential suitors.
Gray, a top-30 recruit for the 2026 class and the No. 2 interior offensive lineman in Virginia, is highly regarded for his impressive play at St. Christopher’s School. He was selected to the 2025 Navy All-American Bowl and has drawn comparisons to Zion Johnson, an offensive lineman for the Los Angeles Chargers. 
To secure his commitment, Ohio State will have to outpace LSU and South Carolina, with Rivals reporting that LSU has a 51.6% chance and South Carolina stands at 32.5%. Gray took an official visit to Columbus in June, so the Buckeyes are now in a waiting game for the Virginia native’s decision.
Securing Gray would be a massive boost for Ohio State’s 2026 recruiting class and its future offensive line. While the Buckeyes have a three-star interior lineman in Tucker Smith for the current class, Gray would be a perfect complement to their already strong 2026 line-up, which includes four-star tackles Sam Greer and Maxwell Riley.
