Cowboys’ Special Teams Star Seizing Linebacker Opportunity
With linebacker Kenneth Murray Jr. away from training camp for the birth of his child, a special teams standout has seized the opportunity to make an impact. 
This offseason, the Dallas Cowboys made several moves to strengthen their linebacker corps, including trading a 2025 sixth-round draft pick to the Tennessee Titans for Murray and a 2025 seventh-round selection. They also signed Jack Sanborn, who previously played under new defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus with the Chicago Bears.
Both Murray and Sanborn have impressed in camp, but Murray, who is a top contender to start with the green dot on defense, has missed several practice sessions recently. This absence has opened the door for Damone Clark to showcase his abilities, and he has certainly taken full advantage.
Clark, a special teams ace for the Cowboys, has been consistently making plays all over the field, including forcing a fumble. DallasCowboys.com’s Tommy Yarrish highlighted Clark’s performance, noting his standout moments early in camp.
“While the Cowboys’ defense has garnered attention for forcing turnovers, the linebacker group has quietly been solid in filling running lanes during the first few practices,” Yarrish wrote. “Damone Clark has been a regular presence, with his biggest play coming when he knocked the ball loose from Luke Schoonmaker earlier this week. With Murray’s absence, Clark has capitalized on his chance.”
With DeMarvion Overshown expected to miss the first half of the season, the Cowboys are looking to build depth at linebacker. Clark’s strong showing in camp could lead to increased defensive snaps for him moving forward.
