Memphis Grizzlies Sign 7-Foot Center Lawson Lovering

The Memphis Grizzlies have continued their busy offseason by adding a seven-foot center to their roster.

Memphis has been built around the trio of Ja Morant, Jaren Jackson Jr., and Desmond Bane in recent years, but after a major trade sending Bane to the Orlando Magic for multiple draft picks and players, the team’s dynamics have shifted. After a first-round playoff exit this year, the Grizzlies are focused on rebounding in 2026.

The team has made several notable moves this offseason, including extensions for Jackson Jr., Santi Aldama, and Cam Spencer, as well as the signing of Ty Jerome and the drafting of Cedric Coward through a trade-up. With their rotation nearly complete, the Grizzlies have now made another move to help round out their roster for training camp.

Reports indicate that Memphis has signed Summer League standout and former Utah Utes center Lawson Lovering to an Exhibit 10 contract. This deal allows the Grizzlies to bring Lovering in for training camp, with the option to convert him to a two-way contract before the season begins.

Lovering, who started his career at Colorado before transferring to Utah for his final two seasons, had his best year as a senior, averaging 8.4 points and 4.9 rebounds. His most impressive performance during Summer League came against the Portland Trail Blazers, where he posted 10 points and 6 rebounds.

The Grizzlies have only advanced past the first round of the playoffs once since 2016, and whether Lovering will play a role in potentially changing that next season remains to be seen. For now, he will have to prove himself to secure his spot in the NBA.
