Broncos Sign WR Courtland Sutton to $92M Extension
The Denver Broncos have secured wide receiver Courtland Sutton with a four-year, $92 million contract extension, as reported by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. The deal includes $41 million in guarantees, which covers the $14 million Sutton was already set to earn in 2024, per 9NEWS’ Mike Klis. 
Sutton, who had missed the last two days of training camp, saw the extension finalized shortly after head coach Sean Payton stated that both sides were “real close” to a deal.
The former Pro Bowler is coming off his first 1,000-yard season since 2019, recording a team-high 81 catches for 1,081 yards and 8 touchdowns. Sutton has become the primary target for franchise quarterback Bo Nix.
Sutton was due to earn $15.2 million in the final year of his previous contract, but the Broncos wanted to avoid the scenario of him entering the season without a long-term commitment.
“Courtland is one of our guys. He’s a team captain,” said general manager George Paton at the NFL Scouting Combine in February. “We want him here, and we’ll have those discussions at the right time.”
With this extension, Sutton’s average annual salary rises to $23 million. He will remain the Broncos’ top wide receiver for the foreseeable future, as the team turns its focus to contract talks with defensive players like Zach Allen, John Franklin-Myers, or outside linebacker Nik Bonitto.
“Look, there are a number of guys you’re going to ask me about a few contracts,” Payton told reporters. “[They’re] all being worked on. There’s been good communication, and I’m just going to leave it at that regarding the specific players.”
