Top Islanders Player Warns Assistant GM: “Don’t Even Think About Trading Me”

After the unexpected trade of Noah Dobson, another key Islanders player has made it clear to new assistant GM Matt Martin that he doesn’t want to be next.

As the New York Islanders navigate a shift in their front office, speculation about a potential retool or full rebuild is growing. The biggest sign came during the NHL Draft in June when the team traded star defenseman Noah Dobson to the Montreal Canadiens for two first-round picks.

Trading away a top defenseman is a rare and bold move in today’s NHL, sparking discussions across the league. Fans and analysts are now wondering if further changes are in the works. With several teams looking to add quality players at manageable salary caps, the question on everyone’s mind is whether Bo Horvat might be traded.

In a recent appearance on the Cam and Strick Podcast, newly appointed assistant to the general manager, Matt Martin, shared a lighthearted but telling moment from the locker room. Martin, who is now working closely with the Islanders’ new GM, revealed that Bo Horvat sent him a text right after the front-office shake-up was announced.

“You better not trade me,” Horvat reportedly wrote.

This suggests Horvat has no intention of leaving the Islanders, even if the team faces a down season. If the Islanders are planning to move some of their top players, he doesn’t want to be on that list.

Horvat’s concerns are likely unnecessary, though. With a full no-trade clause in his contract, he has the power to block any trade. Even if the team tried to ask him to waive it, it’s clear from his text that he would not entertain the idea. It seems Horvat is getting ahead of the situation to make sure the front office knows he isn’t interested in being moved.
