Mizzou Announces Extension for Defensive Coordinator Corey Batoon
Mizzou has announced a contract extension for defensive coordinator Corey Batoon, securing him through 2027. Batoon, who joined the Tigers in 2024, initially signed a deal lasting until 2026. His new extension includes a $100,000 raise, bringing his salary to $1.1 million, according to the Columbia Daily Tribune.
This news comes shortly after Missouri extended head coach Eli Drinkwitz’s contract through 2029, which also saw the salary pool for assistant coaches increase from $9.8 million to $12 million.
In his first season, Batoon’s defense ranked fifth in yards per game and sixth in points per game. Drinkwitz praised Batoon for his teaching skills, emphasizing his humble yet highly effective approach. “Corey’s always looking for the best idea, and that’s what’s best for our staff and players,” Drinkwitz said at SEC Media Days. “He excels at teaching details to everyone.”
Batoon, who was hired from South Alabama, implemented a 4-2-5 defensive scheme similar to that of his predecessor, Blake Baker. Drinkwitz commended Batoon for seamlessly integrating his own style into the system while maintaining its core principles.
Heading into his second year, Batoon’s defense is expected to be even better, with players like defensive back Daylan Carnell anticipating further improvements. “We’ve already added more to the scheme in the spring and are looking forward to even more in the fall,” Carnell said.
