The Panthers should seize any opportunity to trade for Cowboys star Micah Parsons if it arises. Parsons, one of the league’s top two pass rushers, has requested a trade, and Carolina’s front office should act aggressively to pursue him. 
While the latest Madden ratings for the Panthers highlight one key truth about the team’s roster—defensive tackle Derrick Brown holds the highest rating at 95 overall, with cornerback Jaycee Horn and right tackle Taylor Moton coming in at 86—the team still lacks elite, game-changing talent. Despite improvement, the Panthers are not yet one piece away from contention, but adding a superstar like Parsons could change that.
The good news is that Parsons, amid growing tensions with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, has officially requested a trade.
Although it’s unlikely the Cowboys will actually trade Parsons, and initial reports suggest they have no such plans, it’s still early in the process. We can’t rule out the possibility of him being dealt before the trade deadline on November 5.
A trade for Parsons would require significant draft capital and a hefty contract, but the Panthers’ front office should at least initiate a conversation with Dallas. Even if that phone call is brief, the Panthers need to make bold moves like this to get out of their seven-year slump and compete in the NFC South.
For those unfamiliar, Parsons is widely regarded as the second-best pass rusher in the league, behind only Myles Garrett. Last season, in just 13 games, he recorded 12 sacks, 23 quarterback hits, 12 tackles for loss, and two forced fumbles. His career total now stands at 9 forced fumbles. He also earned a 90.0 overall grade from Pro Football Focus, ranking 6th out of 211 edge rushers.
Sure, acquiring Parsons would be costly, but if the Panthers aren’t seriously considering a move for a talent like this, they shouldn’t be in the business of competing in the NFL at all.
