Relentless Team Following Minnesota Frost’s Winning Formula

The Minnesota Frost have set a high standard with their hard-hitting, relentless style, and their approach has proven successful, leading them to two consecutive Walter Cup titles. This team is built around players who drive hard to the net and battle fiercely along the boards.

In contrast, PWHL Vancouver took a different route during the expansion roster-building process. While Seattle focused on acquiring high-end offensive talent, Vancouver opted for a balanced mix of grit, skill, and dependable role players.

Vancouver paid special attention to strengthening their defense, bringing together Claire Thompson, Sophie Jaques, and Ashton Bell—each of whom plays for Canada’s national team—as well as Boston rookie Sydney Bard.

On offense, Vancouver’s roster is competitive, featuring key players such as Sarah Nurse, Jennifer Gardiner, Izzy Daniel, Abby Boreen, Brooke McQuigge, Denisa Krizova, and Gabby Rosenthal, all of whom can make an impact on the score sheet.

While Vancouver didn’t land the same top-tier talent in the draft as some teams, they remain in the hunt for significant names in free agency, with Vancouver native Hannah Miller—who starred for the Toronto Sceptres—potentially in their sights.

The final piece to Vancouver’s puzzle is their starting goaltender, Emerance Maschmeyer, who will be key to their success.
