Cowboys’ coach Brian Schottenheimer claps back at Colin Cowherd’s visor critique

Brian Schottenheimer had a witty retort for Colin Cowherd’s criticism of his headwear. Although the joint practice between the Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Rams didn’t have a clear winner, a winner definitely emerged afterward.

As Schottenheimer took the podium, he playfully roasted Cowherd. The Cowboys coach, known for wearing his visor backward, decided to flip it around. While doing so, he quipped, “Sorry Colin, let me flip this around.”

Cowherd seemed inexplicably bothered by the visor’s backward position and felt the need to rant about it. Known for his disdain for backward hats, Cowherd argued that a visor in that style was even worse. He then elaborated on his thoughts.

“When you’re sitting at a podium, you’re representing the Cowboys, Bank of America, a $12 billion corporation,” Cowherd said. “As a head coach, you should do better than wearing a backward visor. There’s a reason private clubs and country clubs require collared shirts and jackets—there’s a standard. I don’t want my head coach looking like someone who’s there to move my furniture. That’s just awful.”

While Cowherd’s take might be an unpopular one, it’s clearly not something he’ll be changing his mind about anytime soon. He seems to think people view leaders differently based on whether or not they wear their hats backward—a detail that, frankly, no one else seems to care about.

It was refreshing to see Schottenheimer have some fun with it, though. But humor, according to Cowherd, might be another thing coaches should avoid—though we’d need to double-check with him on that.
