Magic Johnson Offers High Praise for Spartan Forward
Michigan State legend Earvin “Magic” Johnson, regarded as the greatest player in the school’s basketball history and arguably the best point guard to ever play the game, has given a glowing endorsement to one of the Spartans’ standout players.
Johnson’s opinions carry immense weight, and for Michigan State junior forward [name of the player], hearing what Magic had to say is nothing short of a major honor.
“If he masters that 15-foot jump shot, he could be the best player in the country, or at least one of the top five or six,” Johnson told Ian Kress of WLNS. “He’s already the best athlete in the country, first and foremost. Then, he’s big and strong. People don’t realize just how physically dominant he is. He has all the tools, and if he adds that shot, he’ll be unstoppable.”
As someone who helped usher in an era of elite basketball, Johnson’s words are even more impactful. He was a key player during the rise of Michael Jordan, facing off with him in epic battles, and also playing with Jordan on the legendary 1992 Dream Team.
Johnson, who also went up against other high-flying legends like Michael Jordan and Dr. J, knows what an elite dunker looks like. He believes [name of the player]‘s ability to dunk is on par with the best in the NBA.
“Very few players in the NBA can dunk like that,” Johnson said. “Anthony Edwards and maybe one or two others might be close, but that’s it. He could win an NBA dunk contest as a college player—that’s how amazing his dunking is.”

“What I love about him now is how he’s becoming a smarter player,” Johnson explained. “When he came in, he was just all about athleticism. Now, he’s playing great defense, he’s a solid help defender, and he’s becoming a well-rounded player.”
With increased minutes and responsibility under coach Tom Izzo, Johnson believes this is the year [name of the player] truly breaks out.
“I think this is going to be his breakout year,” Johnson said. “I’m looking forward to seeing him in the starting lineup, playing every night. Not just offensively, but also what he’ll bring defensively. It’s going to be an exciting time for Michigan State.”
