Georgia Tech Makes the Cut for 2027 Four-Star WR Jabari Watkins
As fall camp continues for Georgia Tech, the Yellow Jackets are in the hunt for one of their top 2027 targets, who has included them in his list of top nine schools. Jabari Watkins, a highly sought-after wide receiver, is a name to watch for next year’s recruiting class, and Georgia Tech is eager to secure his commitment. 
Watkins’ top nine schools are Georgia, Georgia Tech, Missouri, Illinois, Pittsburgh, Texas A&M, California, Nebraska, and Florida State. The Yellow Jackets extended an offer to Watkins in April and have kept in contact with him ever since.
A Highly Ranked Prospect
According to 247Sports, Watkins is a four-star recruit, ranked as the No. 23 player in Georgia, the No. 29 wide receiver nationally, and the No. 318 overall player. As a sophomore, Watkins had an impressive season, recording 39 receptions for 692 yards and five touchdowns. One of his standout performances came against Cairo, where he hauled in four catches for 147 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 36.8 yards per reception.
Despite his 6’2″, 185-pound frame, Watkins is more than just a contested-catch receiver or someone who runs fade routes. His highlight tapes show a dynamic playmaker who can create space and make defenders miss with ease. He possesses great speed and agility, able to cut on a dime and pull away from defenders effortlessly. Watkins is a true deep ball threat, excelling on streaks, go routes, and post patterns, often leaving defenders in his wake. His explosiveness with the ball makes him a key player for Thomas County Central, where he will play an integral role in their bid for a state championship in 5A this season.
The Recruiting Landscape and Georgia Tech’s Position
With the recruiting cycle heating up for the 2027 class, coaches are beginning to focus more on these rising prospects, especially as the class will become the primary focus after January. A key factor to watch will be whether Georgia Tech can bring Watkins in for a game-day visit this fall. The Yellow Jackets have already secured a commitment from receiver Jordan Christie for the 2027 class and are now vying for another dynamic playmaker in Watkins.
Watkins’ next game is set for Friday night against Monroe at 7:30 PM, where fans can see him in action.
Georgia Tech’s Bright Future
The Yellow Jackets are coming off back-to-back winning seasons for the first time in a decade, and the 2025 squad is loaded with talent. They return five all-ACC players from last season, including all-America guard Keylan Rutledge. Other key returning players include all-ACC selections DT Jordan van den Berg, LB Kyle Efford, RB Jamal Haynes, WR Malik Rutherford, and standout quarterbacks Haynes King and Aaron Philo. With such a strong lineup, Georgia Tech is primed for a special season.
The Yellow Jackets will kick off the 2025 season on Friday, August 29, against Colorado (8 p.m. ET – ESPN). They will then open their home schedule against Gardner-Webb on September 6 (3:30 p.m. – ACC Network Extra), followed by an exciting ACC opener against Clemson on September 13 (noon – ABC or ESPN).
