Texas Longhorns Lead in Race for Top 2027 Quarterback
The Texas Longhorns are looking to extend their successful recruiting streak, particularly when it comes to securing top-tier quarterbacks. Under head coach Steve Sarkisian, Texas has been making major strides in recruiting, especially for high-profile players in the backfield.
As they turn their attention to the 2027 class, the Longhorns have emerged as the front-runners to land Kavian Bryant, one of Texas’ top quarterback prospects.
Keeping Top Talent in Texas
Bryant, a native of Palestine, Texas, is considered a consensus top-40 recruit for the 2027 cycle and is ranked as the No. 1 quarterback by Rivals.com. According to Rivals’ Sam Spiegelman, the Longhorns lead the race for Bryant, ahead of Texas Tech. 
Known for his dual-sport ability, Bryant is aiming to pursue both football and basketball at the collegiate level. Over the last two years, he has established himself as one of the top quarterbacks in Texas high school football.
His combination of a powerful arm and impressive mobility, allowing him to evade defenders, has made him one of the top dual-threat quarterbacks in his class.
Bryant visited the Longhorns this summer to throw for the coaching staff, who quickly offered him a scholarship after seeing his talent in person. He also had the chance to meet with Sarkisian and quarterbacks coach A.J. Milwee, which left a strong impression.
“To be the quarterback at Texas comes with a lot of responsibility, but the way the coaches gave me constructive feedback during the camp showed me they take pride in the position,” Bryant said. “The camp was amazing, and I feel blessed to have received the offer.”
Bryant understands the weight of being the starting quarterback at Texas but embraces the challenge. “Texas is the college here in Texas, and earning that role would be a true blessing,” he added. “The coaches are great, and the energy at the camp was off the charts.”
Facing Off with Texas Tech
While the Longhorns are the favorites, they face competition from in-state rival Texas Tech, who are also vying for Bryant’s commitment. Despite the challenge, the Longhorns have a significant advantage in terms of prestige and resources, which gives them the edge in attracting top talent.
While Texas Tech is working to build its program, it is still not at the level of Texas in terms of historical success and recruiting power. Sarkisian and his staff remain in the lead, but Texas Tech could still pose a greater challenge than anticipated for the Longhorns.
