According to NBA analyst Jason Timpf, the New York Knicks might greatly increase their chances of winning a championship by acquiring three-time All-Star center Bam Adebayo from the Miami Heat.

Knicks Eye Adebayo Boost

NBA analyst Jason Timpf believes the New York Knicks could significantly increase their championship odds by acquiring Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo, a three-time All-Star. Timpf argues that Adebayo’s elite playmaking and defensive versatility would complement the Knicks’ core of Karl-Anthony Towns and Jalen Brunson, elevating the team to true title contention.

Timpf compared Adebayo’s potential impact to Isaiah Hartenstein’s role over the past two seasons, saying, “If Adebayo filled into that role, I think he’d do a wonderful job of that.” With Adebayo’s ability to orchestrate offense alongside Brunson and punish defenses with backdoor cuts, New York’s already strong defense could become even tougher.

Acquiring him, however, presents major challenges. Adebayo is locked into a $166 million contract, and Miami remains reluctant to part with its franchise cornerstone. Still, the Knicks could build a package centered around defensive anchor Mitchell Robinson, versatile wing Josh Hart, and future draft picks.

Adebayo’s Value

Last season, Adebayo averaged 18.1 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 4.3 assists on 56.1% true shooting. His defensive dominance has earned him five All-Defensive Team selections, reinforcing his status as one of the NBA’s premier two-way big men.

For a franchise that hasn’t reached the NBA Finals since 1999, pairing Adebayo with Towns could create one of the league’s most dynamic frontcourts, blending size, mobility, and defensive adaptability. While still speculative, the move could push New York from contenders to legitimate favorites heading into the 2025–26 season.
