Titans Should Show Patience with Cam Ward
Cam Ward is still finding his footing with the Tennessee Titans. The rookie quarterback has faced some struggles during the preseason, but that’s not unusual for a No. 1 overall pick. In the Titans’ 23-20 preseason victory over the Atlanta Falcons, Ward completed just 2 of 7 passes for 42 yards in his first three drives. His most impressive play was a 35-yard connection with fellow rookie Elic Ayomanor, helping the team escape their own red zone. However, Ward was only able to make one more completion after that. This game marked Ward’s first experience against NFL-level starters, which he was eager to face. “That’s just more reps for me,” Ward shared with ESPN’s Turron Davenport. “I try to make it tough on myself in practice to prepare for when a real rush is coming. Over time, I’ll keep improving each week.”
Patience Is Key for Ward’s Development
Ward’s development will take time, and the Titans can’t expect him to be a top-tier quarterback in just his first season. It will likely be a multi-year journey for Ward to reach elite status in the NFL. The Titans need to remain patient as he navigates the learning curve of his rookie season. His path to becoming one of the league’s top quarterbacks could take weeks, months, or even years—or it might not happen at all. Still, the Titans must allow him the time to grow. Ward already showed some improvement from his first to second preseason game, so if he continues to progress after each outing, he could eventually lead the Titans to some significant victories. The Titans’ final preseason game will be at home against the Minnesota Vikings.
