Geraldo Perdomo Defends Ketel Marte with Passionate Remarks

Geraldo Perdomo, the Arizona Diamondbacks’ shortstop, did not hold back in his defense of teammate Ketel Marte after recent media scrutiny. Despite the team’s tough loss to the Colorado Rockies, all attention seemed to focus on Marte, who had recently faced criticism from the organization over his time off after the All-Star Break. Following the loss, Perdomo took a stand, interrupting manager Torey Lovullo’s postgame interview to voice his frustration with the reports and rumors surrounding Marte.

Perdomo’s remarks came after an article by Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic revealed the Diamondbacks’ displeasure with Marte’s decision to take time off. This led to ongoing trade rumors. Addressing reporters, Perdomo made it clear that the situation had gone too far.

“I’m tired of this,” Perdomo stated. “I want to make something clear about my teammate. He just wants to play baseball. I don’t speak as a teammate, but as a brother. Leave him alone. It’s been too much for him, and he doesn’t deserve it.”

Perdomo added that despite the team’s recent struggles, they were focused on playing good baseball and enjoying the game. He urged the media to stop their criticism, emphasizing that Marte’s only desire was to be a part of the team.

After the outburst, Perdomo, known for his strong camaraderie with teammates, apologized for interrupting the interview. His defense of Marte, however, was in line with his reputation as a passionate and supportive teammate.

Though Perdomo’s emotional outburst was heartfelt, there are indications that some of the reports about Marte are grounded in truth. According to insider Bob Nightengale, the Diamondbacks are open to listening to trade offers for Marte during the offseason.

However, Marte’s manager, Torey Lovullo, also came to his defense, describing Marte as a highly emotional player who loves the game. “He has a massive heart,” Lovullo said. “He wants to be out there with his teammates every day.”
