Syracuse has settled on its starting quarterback.
This offseason, the Orange added two transfers — Rickie Collins from LSU ahead of spring practice, and Steve Angeli from Notre Dame following spring drills.

Angeli is expected to get the nod when the Orange open the season in Atlanta against No. 24 Tennessee.
At Notre Dame, he appeared in 21 games, with his most notable action coming in last year’s College Football Playoff semifinal against Penn State. Thrust into the game late in the first half, he completed six of seven passes on a key scoring drive.
The starting job at Syracuse carries weight — last season, the Orange led the nation in passing behind Ohio State transfer Kyle McCord, who threw for 4,770 yards before being selected in the sixth round of the NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles.
Angeli has ties to the program as well. A Bergen Catholic (N.J.) product, he was coached in high school by Vito Campanile, the brother of Syracuse quarterbacks coach Nunzio Campanile.
The Orange will see Notre Dame on the schedule this fall, traveling to South Bend on Nov. 22 — provided Angeli hangs onto the job. While a quarterback rotation remains a possibility early on, for now, Angeli is Syracuse’s QB1.
