Wisconsin Badgers’ chances of upsetting Alabama just improved

The Wisconsin Badgers will need every edge they can get if they hope to pull off an upset against Alabama this season—and they may have just caught a break. A key injury on the Crimson Tide roster could shift momentum slightly in Wisconsin’s favor.

Star Alabama running back Jamarion “Jam” Miller suffered a collarbone injury during a recent team scrimmage and is now expected to miss several weeks. Head coach Kalen DeBoer confirmed that Miller underwent a medical procedure, though there’s no clear timetable for his return. According to college football insider Brett McMurphy of On3, the Crimson Tide are optimistic Miller could be back by their September 27 matchup with Georgia—two weeks after Alabama faces Wisconsin in Tuscaloosa in Week 3.

Miller led all Alabama backs last season with 668 rushing yards and seven touchdowns, including one score and 71 yards on nine carries in a previous game against the Badgers. In his absence, Alabama is expected to rely on two sophomore running backs, which could ease the pressure on Wisconsin’s defense—particularly up front, where the Badgers struggled against the run last year. Head coach Luke Fickell is hoping offseason additions via the transfer portal will help shore up that weakness.

Of course, knocking off Alabama will take more than just stopping the run, but Miller’s injury could be a key factor in making that upset bid more realistic.
