Vikings Sign Former Jets and Saints RB Xazavian Valladay

The Minnesota Vikings are adding depth to their running back group ahead of their final preseason matchup by signing Xazavian Valladay. According to NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo, Valladay’s agent confirmed that the 27-year-old is joining Minnesota after spending most of the previous season with the New Orleans Saints.

Valladay, who played college football at Wyoming and Arizona State, went undrafted in 2023 but was initially signed by the Houston Texans as a free agent. He was released shortly after and had brief stints with the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Jets, where he was elevated to the active roster for the final game of the 2023-24 season. The Jets released him in September 2024, and he later joined the Saints in November. Valladay signed a reserve/future contract with New Orleans in January 2025 but was waived in June.

In college, Valladay totaled 3,281 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns over four years at Wyoming before posting 1,192 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns in a single season at Arizona State.

He now joins a Vikings backfield led by Aaron Jones and Jordan Mason, along with Ty Chandler, Zavier Scott, and Tre Stewart providing depth.
