Bruins Prospect Rankings Surge After Adding Two Highly-Rated Talents
The 2025 NHL Entry Draft was a big win for Boston GM Don Sweeney and his scouting team. For years, the Bruins’ prospect pool has been ranked near the bottom of the league, mainly due to trading away first-round picks and not always making the best selections.
In his mid-season rankings, Nick Iacoban from Watch The Stats had the Bruins ranked 32nd out of 32 teams, a spot they’ve often occupied in most prospect assessments. However, after a successful 2025 Draft in Los Angeles, Boston’s standing in Iacoban’s rankings has significantly improved as they head into the 2025-26 season.
Bruins Make Big Move Up in One Analyst’s Prospect Rankings
Following a disappointing 2024-25 season, the Bruins found themselves with the seventh overall pick in the NHL Draft Lottery, the worst possible outcome. When you’re drafting that low, it requires a bit of luck to land a player you really want—and Sweeney got lucky.
Once considered the top pick, Boston College forward James Hagens unexpectedly slid to the Bruins at No. 7, which was a huge victory for the team. It’s fair to say the Bruins were among the winners of the first round that night.
Hagens, a center, had hoped to turn pro this year but will return to Boston College for another season, potentially signing with the Bruins afterward. His selection significantly boosted Boston’s ranking in Iacoban’s eyes.
In the second round, the Bruins snagged another forward, William Moore, with the 51st overall pick. Moore will join Hagens at Boston College this season, and together they’ll help lead a talented Eagles team likely to make a deep NCAA Tournament run.
Moore’s addition lifted the Bruins to 18th in Iacoban’s rankings, marking a significant jump. With these two young talents, Boston’s prospect pool is now among the league’s more promising, but the question remains: which of these prospects, if any, will make an immediate impact this season?
