Kansas Dominates Fresno State 31-7 in Week Zero Showdown
Kansas and Fresno State squared off in an exciting Week Zero matchup to kick off the 2025 college football season.
Both teams entered the game with intriguing storylines. Kansas, coming off a strong finish to the 2024 season, looked to carry that momentum into 2025. With star quarterback Jalon Daniels returning, the Jayhawks were poised to be a more competitive force in the Big 12. Fresno State, led by first-year head coach Matt Entz, aimed to return to their former glory after a period of rebuilding.
Despite both teams having high hopes for the season, Kansas emerged as the dominant force, securing a convincing 31-7 victory. The win puts the Jayhawks at 1-0, while Fresno State falls to 0-1.
Kansas Continues Strong Play
Kansas looked sharp, racking up 383 yards of offense and scoring 31 points. A lot of the success came from quarterback Jalon Daniels, who went 18-of-20 for 176 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions. The receiving corps was also impressive, with Cam Pickett catching six passes for 77 yards and two touchdowns. The running back tandem of Daniel Hishaw Jr. and Leshon Williams both rushed for 69 yards, with Williams adding a touchdown.
On defense, Lyrik Rawls and Devin Dye each recorded an interception, with Rawls leading the team with five tackles.
Fresno State Struggles
Fresno State had trouble getting things going on both sides of the ball. Quarterback EJ Warner, the Rice transfer, completed 18 of 29 passes for 179 yards but failed to throw any touchdowns.
The Bulldogs’ rushing attack was ineffective, finishing with just 37 yards on the ground. Backup running back Elijah Gilliam managed a touchdown on one of his two carries.
Defensively, Jadon Pearson was the standout for Fresno State, recording 10 solo tackles, but the rest of the defense didn’t offer much support.
Looking Ahead
Next Friday, Kansas will take on Wagner at home, aiming for another victory before their highly anticipated “Border War” matchup against Missouri.
Fresno State will look to bounce back as they face Georgia Southern next Saturday, hoping to get their first win of the Matt Entz era and build momentum for the Mountain West season.
