Austin Dillon Says NASCAR Rule Change Could Spark Sponsor Interest, Lure Star Drivers Like Kyle Busch

There’s growing speculation that NASCAR may soon relax its restrictions on how often Cup Series drivers can compete in the Xfinity and Truck Series. Currently capped at five races per year in each of the lower tiers, the potential change could double that number to 10 races. Austin Dillon, driver for Richard Childress Racing, sees this as a positive move that could benefit both drivers and sponsors.

Speaking on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, Dillon expressed enthusiasm about the idea. “I think more partners would be drawn in. It’s a lot easier to pitch a 10-race package to sponsors than just five. You can pair races together and create more value,” he explained.

He even imagined a scenario where he and fellow Cup driver Kyle Busch could collectively compete in up to 20 races. “Kyle would definitely be up for it,” Dillon noted. “He’s at his best when he’s racing in other series. In Xfinity, he’s arguably the greatest ever.”

Ironically, it was Busch’s dominance in the lower series during the early 2010s that led NASCAR to impose the current restrictions. His frequent wins created an imbalance, prompting the sport’s governing body to limit Cup drivers’ appearances in those divisions. Should the rules be relaxed again, Busch would likely be among the first to seize the opportunity and chase more victories.

Ross Chastain Also Interested in More Lower Series Racing

Busch isn’t the only Cup driver eyeing more action in the Xfinity and Truck Series. Trackhouse Racing’s Ross Chastain has already competed in five races in each this season and is eager for more. Speaking to media at Daytona, he shared his hope to continue racing across series.

“I’d love to race more,” Chastain said. “We’re already exploring options—looking at companion races and checking if we can get sponsorship lined up. Either I fund it myself like I’ve done before, or the team steps in.”

Chastain made it clear that his goal is simple: to race and win—no matter the series.

💰 If @NASCAR allows Cup drivers to run more lower series races, would that entice @austindillon3 to race more?
