NFL Fans React Positively to Saints-Cowboys Trade
It looks like the New Orleans Saints may have pulled off a smart move.
As they work to trim their roster ahead of Tuesday’s 53-man deadline, the Saints made an under-the-radar acquisition that could pay off. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, New Orleans traded a 2028 sixth-round draft pick to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for offensive lineman Asim Richards and a 2028 seventh-round pick.
Schefter reported: “Trade: Cowboys are sending OL Asim Richards to New Orleans Saints, per sources. …Saints get OL Asim Richards and a 2028 seventh-round pick. Cowboys get a 2028 6th-round pick.”
While Richards isn’t a household name, he’s only 24 and has appeared in 21 games over the past two seasons. Following news of the trade, many fans on social media showed support for the move.
Saints Still Tweaking Roster, May Have Found a Hidden Gem in Richards
The Saints have faced criticism in the past for how they’ve handled draft picks, but this particular trade is being seen as a win. They gave up very little to get a young, experienced lineman—an area where depth is always valuable. Fan reactions have been largely favorable, though how the move pans out will depend on his performance during the season.
With Tuesday’s cut-down looming, expect even more roster changes across the NFL. Teams can begin building practice squads on Wednesday, and trades or waiver claims may still shift final rosters. Just because the 53-man rosters are due doesn’t mean they’re set in stone.
It’s one of the busiest stretches of the NFL calendar, but fortunately, we’re less than two weeks away from the regular season kickoff.
