UNC QB Commit Travis Burgess Out for Remainder of 2025 Season
Grayson High School’s hopes of repeating as Georgia Class 6A state champions took a major hit Thursday with the announcement that senior quarterback and North Carolina commit Travis Burgess will miss the rest of the 2025 season due to injury.
Burgess, a four-star prospect, shared the news in a heartfelt message on social media.
“I truly appreciate all the thoughts, prayers, calls, and messages — they’ve meant the world to me,” Burgess wrote. “Thank you to my family, coaches, teammates, the Grayson community, and everyone at UNC for the continued encouragement and support. Playing under the Friday night lights at Grayson the past two years has been an unforgettable experience. Unfortunately, due to the injury I sustained last Friday, I won’t be able to finish the season with my teammates. It’s been a true honor to represent Grayson, play in front of our fans, and be coached by an amazing staff.”
He ended his message by looking ahead: “This is just the beginning of my journey. I’m focused on recovery and excited for what’s ahead at UNC. Thank you again for the love and support. Much love, TB.”
Before the injury, Burgess had completed 16-of-31 passes for 329 yards and three touchdowns in two games this season. Last year, he led Grayson to a GHSA Class 6A state title, finishing the season with 2,255 passing yards and 23 touchdowns.
Junior quarterback Deuce Smith stepped in after Burgess went down last week against Rabun Gap-Nacoochee, completing 5-of-7 passes for 37 yards in relief.
Grayson, currently 2-0 and ranked No. 7 in the Rivals High School Football Composite Rankings, is set to face No. 22 Thompson — a top program from Alabama — on Friday night.
