Lions Add DE Andre Carter II to Complete Practice Squad
The Detroit Lions have officially filled the final spot on their 16-man practice squad by signing EDGE rusher Andre Carter II, the team announced Thursday.
Carter, 25, brings size (6-foot-6, 256 pounds) and potential to Detroit’s developmental roster. An undrafted free agent out of Army in 2023, Carter spent his rookie season with the Minnesota Vikings, where he played in 12 games—mostly on special teams—while logging 68 defensive snaps and one quarterback hit.
In 2024, he had a brief stint with the Las Vegas Raiders, appearing in three games and tallying a sack, a tackle, and another QB hit. Despite flashing promise in the preseason—highlighted by two sacks and five pressures in the finale against Arizona—he was waived by the Raiders earlier this week.
Carter’s college career was headlined by a breakout senior season at Army, where he notched 15.5 sacks in 2022, ranking second in the nation behind future top draft pick Will Anderson Jr. His dominant performance helped him become one of West Point’s most celebrated football players.
Now in Detroit, Carter is seen as a low-risk, high-upside addition who adds depth to a solid EDGE group led by Aidan Hutchinson and Marcus Davenport. With Carter’s signing, Detroit’s practice squad is full—unless an exception is made for an International Pathway Program player, which would allow a 17th member.
