NC State Finalizes Basketball Roster with Late Addition

Will Wade’s debut roster at NC State is now officially complete following one final addition before the close of August.

RALEIGH, N.C. – With the college basketball season fast approaching, NC State head coach Will Wade secured the last piece of his inaugural roster over the weekend.

The Wolfpack landed international power forward Musa Sagnia on Saturday after a prolonged recruitment process. Amid growing concerns about the team’s size and depth in the frontcourt, the coaching staff brought in Sagnia — an experienced, older player — to complement the team’s promising young talent.

Sagnia will bolster a frontcourt that includes Scottie Ebube, Jerry Deng, and Ven-Allen Lubin, as NC State aims to kick off the Will Wade era with a strong showing.

Who Is Musa Sagnia?

NC State identified Sagnia as a key target earlier this summer, but his arrival in Raleigh took some time. The 6’8″, 218-pound forward from The Gambia brings with him professional playing experience.

At 22, Sagnia most recently played for BAXI Manresa in Spain’s Liga ACB and also competed in the Basketball Champions League. During his time there, he averaged 3.8 points and 3.1 rebounds in just over 14 minutes per game, starting in 27 contests.

What His Arrival Means for the Team

Sagnia gives the Wolfpack a much-needed boost in frontcourt depth. While he may be viewed as more of a developmental player, his size and experience provide valuable support against physically imposing opponents.

There had been speculation for several weeks that NC State was actively pursuing additional big men before practices officially started. With Sagnia now on board, the coaching staff has filled that need just in time for preseason preparations, allowing him to get settled and integrated with the squad.

His commitment finalizes a near-total roster overhaul under Wade, centered around key transfer Darrion Williams from Texas Tech. Among returners, shooting guard Paul McNeil remains one of the few holdovers from last season.

Sagnia’s signing also signals Wade’s entrance into international recruiting, a growing trend as more overseas prospects seek opportunities to play and develop in the U.S. with hopes of going pro.
