Mets Manager Speaks Candidly About Kodai Senga’s Recent Struggles

New York Mets manager Carlos Mendoza didn’t hold back when addressing Kodai Senga’s ongoing struggles following another disappointing outing.

After a promising sweep of the Philadelphia Phillies earlier in the week, Mets fans were hopeful that the team had finally turned a corner. However, that optimism quickly faded as New York dropped three of four games to the Miami Marlins — a frustrating setback before embarking on a 10-game road trip.

The 5-1 loss on August 31 was particularly discouraging, with Senga once again failing to deliver. He allowed five earned runs over just 4.2 innings, making it the 10th straight start where he hasn’t pitched through six innings — a stretch that dates back to June 6. This continued trend has put extra strain on the Mets’ bullpen.

Beyond his short outings, Senga’s performance overall has been underwhelming. Over his last seven appearances (totaling 32.2 innings), he’s posted an 0-3 record with a 6.06 ERA, allowing 35 hits and 19 walks while striking out just 30 batters.
