Rams Make Last-Minute Roster Move Ahead of Week One Opener

The Los Angeles Rams made a late roster move before their season opener, activating running back Cody Schrader from the practice squad on Saturday. The Rams are set to face the Houston Texans on Sunday.

If Schrader is activated two more times, the Rams will be required to add him to the 53-man roster for at least one game.

What This Means for the Rams

By activating Schrader, the Rams avoid exposing him to waivers without having to officially move him to the 53-man roster. NFL teams are allowed to elevate two practice squad players per game without making a corresponding roster move, so it remains unclear whether Schrader will be active for Sunday’s game.

Sean McVay Discusses Running Back Rotation

On Friday, head coach Sean McVay shared insight into his approach to running back usage, emphasizing a more balanced backfield compared to last season, when Kyren Williams had a high workload. “It’s a bit of both,” McVay explained. “We’ll rotate based on drives. If you go three-and-out or have a long drive, you might adjust. We have a preset idea of snap percentages, but the flow of the game always plays a role.”

McVay was also asked about staying disciplined with snap counts, especially if a running back is performing well in a game. “What would you guess?” McVay replied, laughing. “Damn right. It’s a challenge. But we have to commit to it. The key is trust in our guys, even though it can be tough.”
