Lions Extend WR Jameson Williams with New Contract
The Detroit Lions have secured wide receiver Jameson Williams for the long term, signing him to a contract extension ahead of the 2025 season.
Late Saturday night, just before the team’s season opener, it was revealed that Williams, the Lions’ 2022 first-round pick, has agreed to a three-year, $83 million extension. The deal, which includes $67 million in guaranteed money, ensures that Williams will remain with the Lions through the 2029 season. This extension follows the team exercising his fifth-year option, and the contract averages $27.6 million per year.
Williams becomes the second wide receiver in consecutive years to sign a significant extension with the Lions, joining Amon-Ra St. Brown, who agreed to a four-year, $120 million deal last year.
The Lions have been vocal in their support of Williams’ development since his arrival. He’s become an integral part of their offense, offering a strong second option behind St. Brown. Williams’ game-breaking speed was especially evident last season, showcasing his potential as a deep threat.
For 2025, Williams is slated to earn $2,636,154 in the final year of his rookie contract. In 2026, he’ll make $15.493 million due to the fifth-year option from being a first-round pick in 2022.
Williams’ future with the team has been a topic of increasing excitement throughout the offseason, with head coach Dan Campbell, offensive coordinator John Morton, and wide receivers coach Scottie Montgomery all praising his progress.
In 2024, Williams enjoyed a breakout season, surpassing 1,000 receiving yards and posting career highs in receptions, yards, and touchdowns. Despite facing off-field challenges, including two suspensions, the Lions have remained committed to the talented receiver.
Behind St. Brown and Williams, the Lions’ receiving corps includes Kalif Raymond and Isaac TeSlaa, following the trade of Tim Patrick to the Jaguars after training camp.
Williams, selected No. 12 overall in the 2022 NFL Draft, was the second key player from that draft class to receive a major contract. Safety Kerby Joseph, a third-round pick, signed a four-year, $86 million deal in April, making him the highest-paid safety in NFL history.
