Ravens Re-Sign OLB to Practice Squad
The Baltimore Ravens have re-signed outside linebacker Malik Hamm to their practice squad, while also parting ways with second-year interior offensive lineman Nick Samac. These moves come as part of a flurry of roster changes as the team prepares to face the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football.
Hamm, a local talent from Baltimore, initially joined the Ravens as an undrafted free agent out of Lafayette University in 2023. He made the roster as a rookie but has dealt with injuries in both of his first two seasons, including a torn ACL last year. Despite impressing during the preseason with 6 tackles, 4 solo tackles, 2 tackles for loss, half a sack, 3 quarterback hits, and a fumble recovery, Hamm lost out to 2022 second-round pick David Ojabo for the final outside linebacker spot on the 53-man roster.
With veteran Pro Bowl linebacker Kyle Van Noy expected to miss several weeks due to a hamstring injury, the Ravens are looking to bolster their edge depth. Hamm, familiar with the team’s system and in good shape, returns to fill that gap.
Hamm takes the spot previously held by Samac, who was signed to the Carolina Panthers’ 53-man roster. Samac, a 7th-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, spent his rookie year on the inactive list and was outperformed by fellow second-year lineman Corey Bullock for the backup center role during training camp. In Carolina, Samac will have the opportunity to see his first regular-season action.
Additionally, the Ravens placed veteran safety J.T. Gray on the practice squad injured list. Gray, a former First Team All-Pro special teams player, has not seen game action since being signed on September 3.
