Chargers Promote Tony Jefferson to 53-Man Roster Following Khalil Mack Injury

The Los Angeles Chargers have made another roster adjustment in response to the injury to Khalil Mack. According to NFL reporter Jordan Schultz, the team has signed veteran safety Tony Jefferson to their active 53-man roster.

This move comes just a day after the Chargers placed Mack on injured reserve as they prepare for their Week 3 matchup with the Denver Broncos.

There was some surprise when Jefferson made it past final cuts and was initially placed on the practice squad, with many feeling the Chargers were fortunate to keep him. However, Jefferson made an immediate impact when called upon, recording five tackles and an interception in the Chargers’ Monday night win over the Las Vegas Raiders.

Jefferson, who returned from retirement to join the Chargers last year, has been a great success story, earning and maintaining a spot on the active roster. Now, with Elijah Molden dealing with an injury and a short week after Monday’s game, Jefferson has earned a return to the 53-man roster.

Fans should expect additional roster moves in the coming days, particularly after the Chargers conducted workouts with free agents following Mack’s injury.
