Big News for the New York Knicks

The New York Knicks could make a trade to add some championship experience to the roster.

The New York Knicks are preparing for the upcoming NBA season, but that doesn’t mean they’ll shy away from a major trade if the right deal surfaces.

Last year, New York shook things up by sending Donte DiVincenzo and Julius Randle to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for former No. 1 pick Karl-Anthony Towns. While Towns isn’t expected to be on the move again, forward Josh Hart’s situation could be different.

Fantasy Sports on SI’s Ethen Hutton floated a proposal that would ship Hart to the Denver Nuggets in return for Christian Braun, Zeke Nnaji, Peyton Watson, and a 2031 first-round pick.

“Not only would the Knicks get a cheaper starter who provides more efficiency in the backcourt — even if he lacks Hart’s rebounding — but they’d also gain two bench contributors and a valuable future first-round pick,” Hutton explained. “It’s a strong return for an important role player.”

The deal would also give New York added financial flexibility, three young players it could flip as early as next offseason, and a revamped rotation with deeper options heading into 2025-26.

This would be a blockbuster move for the Knicks, but it aligns with the philosophy behind many of their offseason decisions: strengthening depth. Adding Braun, Nnaji, and Watson would certainly fit that goal.

The centerpiece here is Braun, who started 77 games for Denver last season and averaged 15.4 points per game, proving himself a reliable contributor for the defending champions.

If New York landed him, it would also settle the lingering question of whether Hart or Mitchell Robinson belongs in the starting five. Robinson would likely slot in next to Karl-Anthony Towns in the frontcourt, with Braun coming off the bench as a sixth man, supported by Jordan Clarkson and Guerschon Yabusele.

Still, as intriguing as the trade sounds, it could wreak havoc on the Knicks’ chemistry while crowding the roster with even more moving parts. For now, this proposal probably belongs in the “wishful thinking” category.
