What’s Next for the Chicago Bulls After Signing Josh Giddey to $100 Million Deal?

The Chicago Bulls are still looking for a way to break into Eastern Conference contention, even after their latest move.

After months of negotiations, Josh Giddey signed a four-year, $100 million contract with the Bulls, making him the highest-paid player on a team that has made the playoffs just twice in the past decade. With his new deal, Giddey is hoping to be a game-changer for Chicago.

Giddey’s Impact and What’s Next for the Bulls?

Giddey had an impressive debut season with the Bulls, averaging 14.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, 7.2 assists, and 1.2 steals over 70 games. He became only the second Bull, after Michael Jordan, to average at least 14 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists in a single season.

His standout performances included becoming the first NBA player to record a stat line of 15 points, 10 rebounds, 17 assists, and eight steals in a game. Now, with his new contract, Giddey will look to be a significant factor for the Bulls moving forward.

Before the Giddey signing, Bulls VP of basketball operations Artūras Karnišovas spoke to the fans, urging them to remain patient as the team navigates a period of transition. His comments, however, weren’t met with much enthusiasm.

Karnišovas mentioned, “I’m asking fans for patience because we’re in the first year of transition. I think the way we finished the year shows some promise…to finish 15-5 isn’t a victory lap, but I think there are some positives.”

Last season, the Bulls finished ninth in the Eastern Conference and failed to make it past the Eastern Conference Play-In Tournament for the third consecutive year. This failure likely contributed to Karnišovas’ plea for patience.

Looking ahead, Karnišovas added, “We will look at every opportunity to improve this roster…but I think we took the right steps with this group, and I think we’re on the right path.”

While the Giddey signing is a positive step in the right direction, the Bulls still have work to do, with trade rumors swirling around Ayo Dosunmo and Patrick Williams. If Giddey proves to be a game-changer for the Bulls, it could help attract more stars to Chicago in the future.
