Georgetown Dominates Butler 5-0 in BIG EAST Opener
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Georgetown men’s soccer opened BIG EAST play in emphatic fashion on Saturday, cruising to a 5-0 road win over Butler at the Butler Bowl. The victory moves the Hoyas to 4-2-2 overall and 1-0-0 in league play, while the Bulldogs fall to 2-6 and 0-1 in conference action.
Head coach Brian Wiese praised his team’s execution:
“The guys are really doing their jobs right now. Scoring early in both halves set the tone, and we’re making the little plays that matter. To score five on the road in BIG EAST play and keep a clean sheet isn’t easy—we’ll take it and move forward.”
How It Happened

4th minute – Junior Matthew Van Horn delivered a low cross that senior Zach Zengue tapped in for the early lead.

21st minute – Zengue struck again, redirecting a cross from junior Matthew Helfrich to double the advantage.

40th minute – Junior Eric Howard set up Oliver Stafford, who buried his shot to make it 3-0 at halftime.

46th minute – Freshman Loukas Maroutsis converted a rebound just 35 seconds into the second half, pushing the margin to 4-0.

66th minute – Zengue completed his hat trick, splitting defenders on a feed from senior Max Viera and finishing past Butler keeper Aurie Briscoe.
