Emma Cigna, hailing from Warrenton, Virginia, has committed to pursue both her academic and athletic careers at NC State starting in fall 2026. She is ranked among the “Best of the Rest” in the girls’ high school class of 2026.
Emma Cigna competes for Nations Capital Swim Club and recently wrapped up her long course season at Futures in Greensboro, posting two personal bests: 2:15.56 in the 200 fly and 4:21.87 in the 400 free. Her top finish came in the 400 IM, where she placed 3rd with a 4:52.98.
Earlier this summer, Cigna competed in the 400 IM at the US Summer Nationals, swimming a personal best of 4:56.46 in prelims and improving to 4:51.18 in finals to finish 25th overall.
She began her senior year at Kettle Run High School in Nokesville, VA. In March, she claimed multiple Class 3 Virginia High School State titles, winning the 200 free with a 1:48.88 and contributing to the team’s victory in the 200 medley relay. She also earned 2nd place in the 100 fly with a 53.66.
Cigna’s top SCY times include:
- 400 IM: 4:13.89
- 200 back: 1:56.16
- 200 fly: 1:58.15
- 100 fly: 53.66
The NC State women’s team finished 5th out of 15 teams at the 2025 ACC Championships and went on to place 10th at the 2025 NCAAs, led by freshmen Leah Shackley and Erika Pelaez.
Based on her personal bests, Cigna already has the potential to contribute immediately at the conference level. Her 400 IM time would have qualified for the ACC ‘B’ final this past season, while her 200 back and 200 fly times would have earned spots in the ‘C’ final. Notably, NC State scored just 14 points in the 200 fly last season, compared to 38 in the 400 IM and 77 in the 200 back.
Cigna will join NC State in the fall as part of the class of 2030, alongside Vera Conic, Zoe Smith, Emerson Callis, Maya Schweikert, and Taylor Schwenk. It’s a strong recruiting class, with Callis ranked #6 and Schweikert #20, while Conic received an honorable mention and Smith is another “Best of the Rest” recruit.
