Jets Sign Patriots LB Off Practice Squad
An AFC East rival has poached a key defensive player from the New England Patriots’ practice squad as the team heads into Week 4 of the 2025 NFL season.
The New York Jets signed linebacker Mark Robinson off the Patriots’ scout team on September 23, as first reported by NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero.
Robinson had been elevated from the practice squad for the first three games of the season. However, under the collective bargaining agreement, his next appearance would have required an official promotion to the active roster. The 26-year-old linebacker played 37 snaps on special teams with New England, registering three tackles.
Joining the Patriots in late August, Robinson is a three-year NFL veteran who previously played for the Pittsburgh Steelers. A seventh-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Mississippi, the 5’11”, 235-pound linebacker has appeared in 38 NFL games with four starts. He has 34 total tackles, one sack, one forced fumble, and 11 special teams tackles in his career.
With Robinson’s departure, New England’s linebacker corps now consists of Harold Landry III, Robert Spillane, Christian Elliss, K’Lavon Chaisson, Marte Mapu, Jack Gibbens, Elijah Ponder, and Anfernee Jennings. While Robinson was not part of the defensive rotation during his time in New England, his experience and athleticism will be missed as the Patriots move forward into Week 4.
The Patriots are coming off a tough 21-14 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 3, dropping their record to 1-2. Despite having opportunities to take control of the game, New England was undone by five turnovers—one interception and four fumbles. The inability to protect the football and minimize mistakes ultimately cost them the game.
In the loss, veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers completed 16 of 23 passes for 139 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. Meanwhile, Pats starter Drake Maye statistically outperformed Rodgers, finishing 28 of 37 for 268 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in a losing effort.
Despite sporting their red throwback jerseys in front of their home crowd, the Patriots showed they still have a long way to go before they can contend for a playoff spot in the Mike Vrabel era.
