Browns Add Former Ohio State Lineman to Replace Dawand Jones
The Cleveland Browns have signed Thayer Munford Jr., a former Ohio State lineman, from the New England Patriots’ practice squad and placed Dawand Jones on injured reserve.

With Jones set to miss the remainder of the season after undergoing knee surgery, the Browns have bolstered their offensive line by adding Munford.

Munford, who played five seasons at Ohio State from 2017 to 2021, had an impactful career with the Buckeyes. He began as a reserve before becoming a starter in his sophomore year. He earned second-team All-Big Ten honors in his junior season and was named first-team All-Big Ten after starting all seven games in his shortened senior year. In 2021, he had an exceptional final season, playing both guard and tackle, and was recognized as an All-American before entering the NFL Draft.

He was selected in the seventh round by the Las Vegas Raiders and spent three seasons with them. Munford appeared in all 17 games as a rookie, starting four, then started 10 games in his second season. However, by his third season, he started only four games and was released before the 2023 season. The New England Patriots later signed him to their practice squad, but he did not see any game action with them.

Now, Munford is set to replace Jones on the Browns’ roster. While he is not expected to start immediately, his addition provides much-needed depth to the tackle position. The Browns’ tackle group has already been thin, with Jack Conklin dealing with injuries and Cornelius Lucas stepping in. Additionally, KT Leveston saw action in the Browns’ recent win over the Green Bay Packers.

The Browns are hoping Munford’s presence will strengthen their line, especially after struggling to protect veteran Joe Flacco in their last game. Head coach Kevin Stefanski described the current situation as “fluid,” with Conklin’s health a key factor moving forward.
