Matt Eberflus Announces Defensive Changes Ahead of Week 4 Matchup with Packers
Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus has made significant adjustments to the defense ahead of the team’s Week 4 game against the Green Bay Packers. The Cowboys’ defense has struggled during the first three weeks of the 2025-26 NFL season, with poor performance in the secondary, a lack of pass rush, and overall defensive confusion.
As a result, many have questioned Eberflus’ system, with some even calling for his job. In response to this criticism, Eberflus acknowledged the feedback and revealed that the defense has implemented changes in practice this week. One key modification is simplifying the defensive calls, specifically by switching to one-word play calls, which Eberflus believes will help the defenders communicate more effectively.
Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News reported that Wednesday’s practice was one of the best of the season, with the new play-calling method expected to improve the defense’s execution.
The Cowboys will face the Packers at AT\&T Stadium on Sunday night, with kickoff set for 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock.
