Illinois Football Extends Offer to In-State Three-Star Athlete Keysan Taylor

Before securing a major win against USC, the Illinois football program took a big step in the recruiting game by offering a scholarship to promising in-state prospect Keysan Taylor. The Rockford (Guilford) standout received the offer on Saturday, according to IlliniGuys recruiting analyst Kedric Prince, giving the Illini an early foothold in his recruitment.

Who is Keysan Taylor?

Taylor, a 6-foot-3½, 235-pound athlete from Rockford, Illinois, is one of the top rising talents in the state for the class of 2027. Rated as a three-star prospect by 247Sports, he’s a dynamic multi-sport athlete who contributes in football, basketball, and track. This past spring, Taylor ran a 12.22 in the 100 meters and recorded a 35-9¼ triple jump—impressive numbers for a freshman. His athleticism and multi-sport background have helped him gain attention from major programs over the summer.

Breaking News: 2027 Guilford football recruit Keysan Taylor said, “What a great day for me, sir. Illinois is about to play a big game against USC, and Coach (Bret) Bielema just offered me a scholarship. This is a great day. I was not expecting that. He took the time to do that.”… pic.twitter.com/BtZ3WW0oaU

Versatility on the Field

Taylor makes an impact on both sides of the ball, playing as a defensive edge and a tight end. His stats reflect his well-rounded game: 57 total tackles, 11 tackles for loss, six pass deflections, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and one interception on defense. Offensively, he’s totaled 17 receptions for 348 yards and five touchdowns.

On defense, Taylor stands out for his high motor and ability to penetrate the backfield. He’s also shown the ability to drop into coverage, showcasing his football IQ by making plays like a 15-yard drop-back interception. On the offensive side, he brings size, speed, and blocking ability—making him effective whether lined up wide or closer to the line.

Recruiting Battle Heating Up

Illinois made a timely move by offering Taylor during a high-profile game day visit. Other programs like Indiana, Iowa, and Miami have already extended offers, and more are expected. Still, the Illini may have gained some traction by getting Taylor on campus for their dramatic last-second win over No. 21 USC in front of a packed Gies Memorial Stadium. With such an atmosphere, Illinois may have made a strong impression early in Taylor’s recruitment.
