Knicks Re-Sign G League Standout Forward Donovan Williams
The New York Knicks are bringing back one of their top G League contributors from last season, Donovan Williams, as reported by Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
Williams, 24, returns to the Knicks organization after a strong 2023-24 showing with the Westchester Knicks, where he averaged 17.8 points per game, shooting over 46% from the field and 38% from three in 35 appearances. His performance helped lead Westchester to success at the G League Winter Showcase.
He ended his G League stint on a high note, scoring 34 points in a February game against Birmingham before signing with the Shanghai Sharks in China to close out the season.
Williams’ new deal with the Knicks is likely an Exhibit 10 or training camp contract, making him the 22nd player on the team’s roster during early preseason preparations. He’ll likely be evaluated during training camp and preseason, especially once the Knicks return from Abu Dhabi, where they’ll play two exhibition games against the Philadelphia 76ers.
An undrafted forward out of Texas and UNLV, Williams has played in two NBA games with the Atlanta Hawks and has also spent time in the Nets, Warriors, and Nuggets systems — the latter being his most recent NBA experience during Summer League, where he averaged 7.5 points per game.
If Williams sees any preseason action at Madison Square Garden, it would mark another appearance for his family name at the venue — his half-sister, Kelsey Bone, was drafted fifth overall by the New York Liberty in 2013 and played in the WNBA.
