Kansas State Offers Scholarship to 2027 Texas Running Back

Jayshon Gibson, a 2027 running back from Richland High School in North Richland Hills, Texas, received a scholarship offer from Kansas State on September 26. The offer came following a conversation with K-State Tight Ends Coach Luke Wells.

“I had a great talk with Coach Wells,” said Gibson. “He explained how my versatility fits into their system. I also spoke with Coach Anderson (Running Backs Coach Brian Anderson), and we’re continuing to build a strong relationship. I really like what their program is doing.”

Recruitment Gaining Momentum

Gibson’s recruitment has picked up steam, now boasting 15 offers. In addition to Kansas State, programs such as TCU, Texas State, Arkansas, Wyoming, Washington State, Minnesota, UTEP, Bryant, Texas Tech, SMU, Tulsa, Western Kentucky, and New Mexico have also extended offers.

TCU was the first to offer the 5-foot-10, 188-pound back on June 15, 2024. Since then, his profile has continued to rise. “Recruiting has been going really well. I’ve had the chance to connect with a lot of coaches and programs,” he said.

Game Visit Scheduled for This Weekend

This Saturday, Gibson plans to attend the Kansas State vs. Baylor game in Waco. The Wildcats (2-3, 1-1 Big 12) are among the programs that have been making a strong impression on him recently, along with Texas Tech, TCU, Minnesota, and Arkansas.

Baylor is also emerging as a contender in his recruitment. “Baylor has been reaching out, and I’m set to visit for the game against Kansas State,” Gibson said. Arizona and San Diego State are also among the schools maintaining consistent contact.

Strong Start to the Season

Gibson has been a major contributor to the Richland Royals’ strong 4-1 start, including a 3-1 district record. In last week’s 51-21 win over Birdville, he put up an impressive performance with 28 carries for 187 yards and four touchdowns.

Despite his success, Gibson remains focused on bigger goals. “We’ve been improving each week, and that’s important if we want to make a run at the state title. Personally, I’m aiming for 2,000 rushing yards and 25 touchdowns this season.”

The Royals look to continue their momentum this Friday when they face the Keller Fossil Ridge Panthers (1-4, 0-3) on the road in another District 3-5A matchup
