Patriots Sign RB Jashaun Corbin After Antonio Gibson’s Season-Ending Injury

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — With running back Antonio Gibson out for the season, the New England Patriots have added depth to their backfield by signing Jashaun Corbin to the practice squad.

To make room for Corbin, the team released offensive lineman Royce Newman from the scout team.

Corbin, a 5’11”, 215-pound back from Florida State, originally joined the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the New York Giants in 2022. Since then, he’s spent time with the Giants, Panthers, and Falcons, primarily on practice squads. In 2024, he appeared in six games for the Giants, recording one carry for one yard and catching three passes for 12 yards.

Earlier this year, Corbin played in the UFL with the San Antonio Brahmas, where he led the league in rushing with 514 yards on 97 carries, scoring four touchdowns and adding 18 catches for 138 yards. He also contributed 252 kick return yards. He had a brief training camp stint with the Falcons this summer before being released.

Corbin now joins Terrell Jennings as the second running back on the Patriots’ practice squad.

Meanwhile, Royce Newman, a veteran lineman with four seasons in the NFL, had joined the Patriots’ practice squad on September 24. The former fourth-round pick by the Packers has played in 52 regular-season games (24 starts) and three playoff games. He was most recently with the Buccaneers and signed with the Cardinals in the offseason but was released in August.
